Where did the name 'Scrubcutter' come from?
The name Scrubcutter has an interesting story behind it. When CBA's Managing Trustee Phil Guyan first went to NewstalkZB's management with a programme proposal in 1996, the answer was 'no thanks'. NewstalkZB's Operations Manager explained it this way... he said 'you need to do something for us that we can't do for ourselves. It's like you've offered to mow our lawns, but we already have our own lawnmower. You need to be like a contractor who comes in to chop down our scrub. We need a scrubcutter, not a lawnmower'. So, Phil's next programme proposal had the working title 'Scrubcutter', and it stuck.
What is a scrubcutter?
Scrubcutters are 90-second inspirational radio 'programmettes' produced by CBA (with help from NZ On Air) and broadcast nationwide - primarily on NewstalkZB.
Where can I hear scrubcutters on the radio?
You can hear Scrubcutters played on NewstalkZB stations (not in Auckland and not often in Wellington) when the afternoon traffic reports are being played in Auckland... and at other various times during the day. It's hard for us to know exactly when they'll play - because they are there to 'fill a network window' - but depending on where you are in NZ, they will play several times between 4pm and 7pm weekdays. Scrubcutters are also broadcast on New Zealand's Rhema network. Because of the slightly unpredictable nature of their scheduling, it's easiest to listen to Scrubcutters right here, on Scrubcutter.com
Can I get copies of scrubcutters on CD?
We have a sampler CD called "Appetiser" - presented by Petra Bagust - which has a selection of our Scrubcutters. We would be happy to send one to you free of charge.
Phone 0508 FREE CD (0508 373 323) for a free Appetiser CD (NZ only).
